Sometimes you need to be exposed or made aware of less than pleasant situations in order to appreciate things.
Camping for me is a lot of work. It takes a while to setup everything. And it takes even longer to put it away. But after reading about the Marines camping experience in Afghanistan, I would have to say that for me to complain about setting up and putting things away pales in comparison.
Just a few details of the writer's blog entry give readers a good sense of what these men are experiencing:
- Temperatures routinely fall below freezing at night and the Marines sleep in unheated tents - There's no hot water. It's too cold to shower, so Marines go for a few weeks without a true shower. - Mice are everywhere |
